The Yellow Wallpaper

Before reading "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Gilman I expected that the story would be exciting and fun because I associate the color yellow with the sun shining, birds chirping and pleasant activities. The short story turned out to be exactly the opposite of what I expected. What I liked most about the story is the realistic representation of what a mental disease really is. I think this story is very helpful for people not suffering with a mental illness to really get a clearer idea of the mind state of a mentally ill person and understand, support and help them get better. I would recommend this story to all my friends because unfortunately mental health disorders are widely spread and mentally healthy people need to have at least some basic knowledge in order to be able to understand how the sick ones actually think, act and feel in order to be able to help them recover.

Cinderella

By reading the title of the poem "Cinderella" by Anne Sexton I expected it to be very boring. I thought it would be pretty much the same as the well known Disney version of "Cinderella" but I was wrong. What I liked best about this poem is that it was funny and it caught my attention because it was definitely not boring as I expected but very witty. I would recommend this poem to a friend because I find it interesting and it brings a different twist on an old story that we all know very well.

Young Goodman Brown

By reading the title of the short story "Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne I expected the story to be about the life of a little boy with a good heart. The story was quite interesting and I am very happy we had to cover it in this class. What I like most about this story is the interesting way the author presents the story to the reader leaving so many questions to be answered by the reader's own mind and imagination. I find this short story absolutely amazing and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

When I first read the title "Ask me" by William Stafford I though the poem would be about his opinion on different topics. I thought he would be offering answers about everything else but his personal life, past and relationships with others. I was surprised the poem was so deep and captivating. What I liked most about the poem is the interesting writing style of the author, the literary techniques he used in the poem which makes it so unique. I would definitely recommend it to a friend. I find this piece of literature extremely amazing and interesting. I love this poem and as a matter of fact I already recommended it to my friends.

The Storm by Kate Chopin

When I first read "The Storm" by Kate Chopin I expected the story to be about a terrible storm without a happy end. But I was pleasantly surprised of the story when reading it. What I liked best about this story is how Chopin presented the story to the reader in a very interesting and exciting way by showing a deep connection between the storm and the feelings and emotions of the characters. I liked the story a lot because of the unique writing style of the author and I would recommend it to a friend.

A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner

When I first read the title of the story "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner I expected that the story would be about love and romance. But when I read it it turned out that my expectations had nothing to do with what the story is actually about. What I liked most about "A Rose for Emily" is the retrospective narration that the author uses to present us the story, making it more interesting and mysterious. I am not keen on Gothic stories and I would not recommend the story to a friend because even though it was interesting I did not like the dark atmosphere and the outcome of the story.
